Free Swimming Lessonsfor children and adults (11yrs +)
Dear Parents,
You may be aware that under a Government initiative to keep children healthy and encourage them to complete 1 hour of exercise each day, children under 16, after completing the required paperwork, may swim for free at Great Dunmow Leisure Centre. This opportunity is also available for those over 60 so should you know of anyone in either or these categories please let them know.
As we are participating in this fantastic opportunity we have been given a grant to offer free swimming lessons to any person 11 years and over who is not currently able to swim 25 metres confidently. This is slightly open to interpretation so if you know of anyone who hasn't been swimming for a while and feels that a bit of tuition would help them back into the pool this could be the answer! Also if you know of a person who is nearly 11 years old this could also work.
Please talk to your Mums, Dads, Grans, Grandads and any other relatives or friends to make sure that everyone you know can make the most of this opportunity.
Once I have enough enquiries I will arrange a course at a time to suit most of the people. So far I have run courses during the afternoon, in the evening, on a Saturday and in the School holidays. All you need to do is fill out a form and turn up with your bathing gear! It's that simple!!
The telephone number for Great Dunmow Leisure Centre is 01371 878690 when you hear the message press 3 to speak to reception and leave your details for Diana, please make sure you let them know it is a free swimming lesson enquiry so that it gets put into the right enquiry folder as I also get enquiries for paid swimming courses.

BRITISH JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS 4TH OCTOBER 2009
Jos Goddard (fighting in the U46kg category) had a bye in the first round which meant he went straight through into round two, but would mean he would have to fight someone who had already taken a victory and would be up to "fighting speed"! As expected Jos started slowly and was caught in the opening minute with a small counter throw. This though sprung Jos into life and he soon settled into his now familiar high paced style of judo. Jos put together a string of attacks which saw his opponent (Jordan Graver from Kettering Judo Club) start to wilt under the pressure. Jos eventually set his opponent up for a superbly executed Tomoe-Nage (Stomach Throw) to take an excellent victory. Round three saw Jos up against Liam O'Prey, a big Scottish lad from East Kilbride Judo Club. This time though there was no slow start from Jos, he totally dominated the contest and once again threw his opponent with Tomoe-Nage but this time it was not a knock out score. From the throw Jos used his much improved ground work skills to take the victory by hold down. This meant Jos would now meet Christian Milotte from Westcroft Judo Club in the final. Jos narrowly lost to Milotte in their previous encounter was out to settle the score! However Jos found the awkward style of Milotte difficult to overcome and it was his opponent who got the opening score. Jos started to get back into the Final when he tightened up his gripping, but it was Milotte who got the next score which was enough for victory. There was quite a wait for the final and this probably didn't do Jos any favours, but nonetheless an excellent display of judo from Jos to earn himself a British Championship Silver Medal.
